Derek Twigg MP

Member of Parliament for Halton

Blog

I am growing increasingly concerned regarding the reports I am receiving about  incidents of anti social behaviour. Of particular concern are reports of people being intimidated by groups on bikes. This is not acceptable behaviour. If a bike hits someone it could result in serious injury or a fatality.

I have today written to Cheshire Police to raise my serious concerns and those of my constituents and asked them what measures will be undertaken to combat these incidents.

Halton Draft Allocations Local Plan (DALP)

I am responding to the consultation on the DALP, my views are set out below which relate to my constituency of Widnes, West Runcorn & Hale Village and have been submitted to the consultation.

I am very concerned about a number of proposals contained in the DALP document. I would urge my constituents to read the DALP and submit their own comments to the consultation, the closing date to do so is Thursday 15th February.  You can find the details here.

Derek has today written to David Gauke MP, Secretary of State for Work & Pensions regarding his concerns for his constituents on Universal Credit and early paid December wages. Getting paid from work early will be recognised by the Universal Credit system as receiving two wages in one Assessment Period for some of them and their Universal Credit being cut at Christmas.

It is disappointing that the government did not agree to remove tolls for those outside of the Borough and Halton businesses.

Both the Mersey Gateway and the Silver Jubilee Bridge are in my constituency of Halton and there is a long history that has led to current tolling situation.  I have been involved in the crossings situation for over two decades, making many representations to governments to support the fact that Halton needed a new Mersey crossing.

During my time as MP for Halton I have always had a good relationship with our local Police. They have a difficult and demanding job which increasingly they have had to do with diminishing resources. They do a great job on our behalf but they are being severely stretched.

I’m from Halton and live here, I know how strong our community is but we also face a number of challenges in terms of crime. I regularly have local people tell me that they want to see more police officers on our streets.
